The Maratona di Salemi was created with a clear goal: to combine the passion for running with the beauty, history, and culture of Salemi, one of the most charming towns in western Sicily.
Set among rolling hills, historic streets, and breathtaking countryside, the race offers athletes a unique sporting experience in an authentic Sicilian setting. Maratona di Salemi is a a race based not on time but on celebration of sport, community, and most importantly food and wine.
The event is open to everyone who wants to challenge themselves on a scenic and moderately demanding course, while enjoying the warmth and hospitality for which Sicily is known.
Our Mission
Salemi is a small town with a long history dating back to Roman times, who first established a settlement in this area. The countryside surrounding the city is rich with top-quality wineries and renowned local cuisine.
The mission of the Maratona di Salemi is to highlight and promote this region as a destination of excellence and a leader in Sicilian wine production, while bringing together sport, culture, and community.
Our mission is to:
- Celebrate Salemi and the surrounding region
- Promote the cultural and natural heritage of the area
- Celebrate an international running community in Salemi
- Highlight and support local wineries and producers
Maratona di Salemi 2026
The Maratona di Salemi made its debut in 2026 with a fantastic first edition, welcoming 200 runners from more than 35 countries to the historic town of Salemi.
A huge thank you to everyone who travelled to Salemi to take part and be part of our inaugural event. Your enthusiasm, support, and energy helped make the first Maratona di Salemi a memorable occasion.
We are incredibly grateful to our participants and everyone who helped bring the event to life. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to welcoming you back for the next edition.
Maratona di Salemi returns from 1–3 October 2027. We can’t wait to share another unforgettable celebration of running, wine, and Sicilian culture with you.
