The Maratona di Salemi was created with a clear goal: to combine the passion for running with the beauty, history, and culture of Salemi, one of the most charming towns in western Sicily.
Set among rolling hills, historic streets, and breathtaking countryside, the race offers athletes a unique sporting experience in an authentic Sicilian setting. Maratona di Salemi is a a race based not on time but on celebration of sport, community, and most importantly food and wine.
The event is open to everyone who wants to challenge themselves on a scenic and moderately demanding course, while enjoying the warmth and hospitality for which Sicily is known.

Salemi is a small town with a long history dating back to the Ancient Greeks, who first established a settlement in this area. The countryside surrounding the city is rich with top-quality wineries and renowned local cuisine.
The mission of the Maratona di Salemi is to highlight and promote this region as a destination of excellence and a leader in Sicilian wine production, while bringing together sport, culture, and community.

Who are we?
My name is Matthew Beex, and I am the Race Director of the Maratona di Salemi and a passionate runner myself. Running has taught me to appreciate the joy of every step, the thrill of personal challenges, and the power of community.
I discovered Salemi a few years ago and instantly fell in love with the town. Its historic streets, warm community, and vibrant culture inspired me to create a marathon that showcases everything that makes Salemi so special. This race is my way of sharing the magic of the town with runners from around the world.
Salemi is also renowned for its rich wineries, and as a runner, I thought — what better way to explore them than on foot, with a glass of wine in hand? And thus the Maratona Di Salemi was born. Whether this is your first half marathon or your hundredth, the Maratona di Salemi promises an experience you’ll never forget.
