The Maratona di Salemi is a 21.1 km run through the stunning Sicilian countryside. The course winds through the historic centre of Salemi, its narrow medieval streets, and the surrounding vineyards of the Belìce Valley. Along the way, you’ll find refreshment stations featuring local wines, regional foods, and live festivities.
While the event is timed, we encourage participants to run or walk and really enjoy the very best of Sicilian hospitality.

Maratona di Salemi will take place on the first weekend in October. October 2nd-4th. The weekend kicks off with traditional pasta dinner held in and around the old Norman castle The race itself will start on October 3rd in Piazza Alicia. Followed by the after party in Piazza Alicia.

Salemi is a picturesque mountain town in western Sicily, located about one hour southwest of Palermo, in the heart of the Belìce Valley.

  • Airports: Palermo (PMO) and Trapani (TPS)
  • Transport: Salemi can be reached by car, regional bus services, or pre-arranged transfers from either airport.

Salemi offers a range of charming B&Bs, boutique stays, and agriturismi. Additional options are available in the nearby towns of Gibellina, Castelvetrano, and Marsala.

The final route is still being finalised. However, the course will highlight Salemi and its surrounding countryside, featuring a mix of road and off-road terrain, gentle undulating hills, vineyard paths, and a few short stair sections. Expect a scenic and varied run.

Maratona Di Salemi theme for 2026 is ‘Stepping Through History’. We encourage you to dress up as a famous historical figure, cultural icon, or well-known character from any period in time.

Absolutely not! Maratona Di Salemi is open to all abilities. The course is open for a maximum 4 hours. Don’t worry if you don’t make it all the way around the course though. The ‘sweep bus’ will collect you and bring you back to the Castle for the after party!
